Inkjet prints, diptych

This self-portrait is an exploration of the conflict and negotiation between the inner, experienced/felt self, and the outer, observed self, that moves through public space and culture. The constant negotiation between these spaces is intrinsic to trans (transgender/transexual) experience. These images as a pair represent my experience of this constant negotiation between embodying and negating the felt/experienced self; between taking control when possible and having no control over how one is seen/read, and of engaging in this ongoing inner dialogue in order to survive in the world on a day-to-day basis.
